DietSee, a glycerol biosensor for monitoring
lipolysis.

Adipose tissue is a complex cell tissue whose primary function is to store energy in form of triglycerides. To meet the body’s needs, the “fat” of the adipose tissue is converted into energy. This reaction will then release glycerol and free fatty acids into the bloodstream, as the main biomarkers of lipolysis.

Triglycerides (fat)

Glycerol + Fatty Acids

Measuring the glycerol released by lipolysis serves many purposes: fundamental research on animal models, biomedical research, loss of fat mass, or athletic performance.
